I read this book for a class. Barell is an author who is great when he is being specific and practical, but comes across as condescending or just ridiculous when he starts philosophizing or waxing poetic.
This book was recommended to me, and I feel compelled to do likewise! Part teacher reference, part anecdotal, this book teaches metacognitive strategies and relates all concepts provocatively and seemlessly to society.
This book reads like an extended "how to" manual, and the language could only be described as stultifying. Many of the suggestions made are things good teachers do already.
